Your Skyhawk Cessna 172 have retractable gear, then it is not a Skyhawk.

With retractable gear only the Cessna 172RG Cutlass/Turbo Cutlass http://www.172guide.com/models/172RG-82.htm

A couple of Items for you:

1) Under ‘When engine starts’.
First Item after advancing the mixture should be ‘Throttle 1000 RPM’ –> The engine is cold and oil has not been flowing yet, RPM’s need to be kept to minimum.

Second step should then be your oil pressure step. If the oil pressure isn’t rising, you need to abort now not after checking other items.
Also in the RW, alternator and battery master switch are turned on at the same time before engine start.

2) You mention prop control a couple of times. There is no prop control on the 172. Carried over from a 182 checklist?

  @RPM: Not quite. The first thing you need to do when the engine starts, is advancing the mixture to full rich and THEN tuning the throttle. <1200 RPM is still considered 'low RPM' and ok for the engine to be running with low oil temps. +1400 RPM is generally bad for the engine. Will keep those checks as is.
  
  @Oil pressure: Yes, you're right there. Will bump up the 'oil pressure' check so that it's right after the rpm tuning.
  
  @Alternator: There's actually discussion about whether the alternator should be on or not before start up. I learned on aviation forums to turn the alternator on AFTER startup because it can significantly drain the battery – prior to startup. Not set in gold, though.
  
  @Prop: I cannot seem to find any references to prop control in the checklist (other than references to inspecting prop blades, area, etc.). Could you please point them out?

    RPM: It’s not about the oil being cold, it’s that the oil pressure has to stabilize first. My instructor always gave me crap if the engine started up over 1000RPM. The sequence was to put the mixture full rich, then immediately grab the throttle and retard it to 1000RPM if it was over that, then look at the oil pressure gauge and confirm it came into the green within 30 seconds.
    
    PROP: sections 9 and 12 you make reference to the prop control.
